Review: Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips

I've been obsessed with pore strips since I was a kid thanks to this scene from The Princess Diaries (skip to 0:25):

Ironically, despite the fact that I've been crushing on The Princess Diaries since I was a little kid, I didn't get around to trying pore strips for the first time until this weekend (I know, right?).

I picked up an 8 pack of Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips at my local drug store to try out (also available in a 14 pack). The largest amount of pores are located on the center of our faces which is why our noses are prone to getting blackheads and whiteheads. In my last post I talked about how I have oily skin so blackheads are a recurring problem for me. You can find out more about the science of blackheads here.

The Process

Using these pore strips is simple enough. Wash your face, wet your nose, apply the strip and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes and peel it off slowly to get rid of your black and whiteheads. The strip becomes papier mâché when it combines with the water on your nose, ultimately hardening and unclogging the dirt from your pores.

WARNING: As per The Princess Diaries scene, be sure to take the pore strips off your nose slowly after the 10-15 minute mark as your skin will smart due to the tightness of the hardened strip.

Note that while the removal of blackheads and whiteheads on a daily basis would be nice, don't use these strips more than once a week. The strips remove excess oil so over-use can lead to dry skin and/or irritation.

Pros

- Effective blackhead and whitehead removal
- Noticeable and immediate results
- Easy to use
- Leaves you with a clean feeling

Cons

- Pricey
- Cannot be used daily
- Sticky residue left on face after strip removal
- Dries the skin

Yay or Nay?

Although these strips are pricey, I do think they're worth it. I'm not a fan of daily blackhead cleansers as I don't usually see much of a difference, but with these pore strips the results are immediately noticeable. I have sensitive skin and while my skin did itch after the initial strip removal, the redness quickly disappeared and I loved the final result. I'm definitely going to be introducing these strips into my weekly skin routine.

VERDICT: Yay.
